High-level officials from Stanley Electric Corporation Limited and OEC, Japan, participated and represented the seminar. The seminar focused on a cutting-edge Japanese water purification technology that uses ultraviolet rays and a catalytic carbon layer to remove harmful bacteria, viruses, chemical elements, and impurities from water.
This technology purifies water without chemicals, reduces energy consumption, is inexpensive to maintain, and can be effectively used in both rural and urban areas.
The seminar was inaugurated by lighting the lamp jointly by Dr. S.C. Kulshrestha, Founder Chairman of Shri Ram Group of Colleges and Chief Guest Dr. Pragya Singh, Executive Officer, Municipal Board, Muzaffarnagar and Tashyuuki Iwasaki, Manager, Stanley Electric Corporation Limited and Hiroshi Yamanuchi, Executive Officer, OCE, Japan, who came from Japan. Following this, the Japanese government provided a loan of approximately ₹3.5 crore to the college.
On this occasion, Dr. Pragya Singh, the chief guest at the seminar, explained that access to safe and affordable drinking water remains a major challenge in many parts of India, such as Muzaffarnagar. Microbial contamination, poor maintenance, and chemical purification methods often compromise water safety. Dr. Pragya Singh expressed her satisfaction with the use of this technology in Muzaffarnagar and assured the municipality's full support.
On this occasion, Hiroshi Yamanuchi explained that UVCCL is a technology that can protect drinking water from microorganisms. This technology eliminates microorganisms without compromising water quality. He also stated that this technology has been successfully used in Maharashtra and Rampur village in Punjab, India. He now intends to implement this technology in Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh.
Following the seminar, Tatsuyuki Iwasaki explained that this method has several advantages, including high microbiological efficacy against bacteria, viruses, and protozoa, low operating costs, minimal energy use, and low chlorine consumption.
During the seminar, various experts shared their views on the water crisis and water quality challenges in India. College students and faculty members presented research papers and presentations on the topic.
College Principal Dr. Prerna Mittal stated that this initiative is an excellent example of India-Japan educational and technical cooperation. She explained that the seminar provided students with a deep understanding of international technological innovations.
