Today, International Environment Day was celebrated under the joint aegis of Bio Science Department, National Service Scheme Unit and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan of Shri Ram College, Muzaffarnagar.
This program was inaugurated jointly by today's chief guest Dr. Vijay Kumar, Professor, Department of Agricultural Sciences, Chaudhary Chhotu Ram College, Muzaffarnagar and Dr. Ashok Kumar, Director, Shri Ram College, by lighting the lamp.On this occasion, the chief guest Dr. Vijay Kumar, Professor, Department of Agricultural Sciences, Chaudhary Chhotu Ram College, Muzaffarnagar, said that World Environment Day is celebrated on 5 June all over the world for the protection and conservation of the environment. It was also told that in the year 1972, the United Nations had announced to celebrate this day to bring political and social awareness at the global level towards the environment. The theme of this year's Environment Day is "Eliminating Global Plastic Pollution". On this occasion, various students of the Department of Bioscience and Agricultural Science present in the program presented the causes of plastic pollution, its harms and suggestions to reduce plastic.After this, Dr. Ashok Kumar, Director, Shri Ram College, present in the program, told the students about the ill effects of micro plastic on human body, rivers and soil.He also said that now the time has come that every person should contribute in removing plastic pollution.On this occasion, Dr. Prerna Mittal, Principal, Shri Ram College, Muzaffarnagar, present in the program, took assurance from all the students that they should use cloth and jute bags instead of plastic and were asked not to use polythene.Along with this, it was also told that polythene does not decompose quickly and is harmful for humans and other living beings.At the end of the program, Bio Science spokesperson Vikas Tyagi administered oath to all the teachers and students present in the auditorium to protect the environment and eliminate plastic pollution. On this occasion, Bio Science Department Head Dr. Vipin Kumar Saini and Agricultural Science Department Head Dr. Mohd. Naeem and Bio Science spokesperson Dr. Busra, Vikas Tyagi, Ankit Kumar, Ashu, Disha Sharma, Shaba Rana, Zehra Hussaini, Shalini Mishra, Sachin Kumar, Mohd. Salman, Ayushi Pal, Tanu Tyagi, Anupriya, Divya Patiyal, Subodh Kumar and Pinku Kumar etc. contributed significantly in making the program successful.
