Opportunities and Challenges of Teaching in the Age of AI

A guest lecture was organized by the Department of Teacher Education at Shri Ram College, Muzaffarnagar on the topic "Opportunities and Challenges of Teaching in the Age of AI". The program was inaugurated by lighting a lamp in front of Maa Saraswati by the chief speaker Professor Bhavna Singh, Professor, Faculty of Education, Shahid Mangal Singh Pandey Girls College, Meerut and special guests Dr. Suvita Kumari, DAVV (PG) College, Muzaffarnagar, Amrish Kumar, Radha Krisht Institute of Technology and Management, Saharanpur Dr. Prerna Mittal, Principal Shri Ram College, Dr. Ashok Kumar, Director Shri Ram College, Dr. Vineet Kumar Sharma, Dean Academics Shri Ram College.

Speaking on the occasion, the keynote speaker of the program, Professor Bhavna Singh, Professor, Faculty of Education, Shahid Mangal Singh Pandey Girls College Meerut said that AI is not a magical solution, nor is it a threat to the role of the teacher. It is a powerful tool, which when used thoughtfully can lead to better learning outcomes, save teaching time and make education more inclusive. However, successful implementation requires more than just enthusiasm for innovation. Education is the most important sector that powers the rest of the industries. With increasing technological dynamism, changes have also occurred in educational fields, with projectors replacing blackboards, accommodating online classes, monitoring student performance through online portals, etc. The rise of AI has also significantly impacted the educational sector, opening doors for greater adaptability of learning resources.

On this occasion, Dr. Prerna Mittal, Principal Shri Ram College said that there are many AI opportunities for education that can be used to improve the field of teaching and learning. AI has been quite useful for both teachers and students, popularly used as a tool to assess student performance, correct grammar, write essays and provide instant resourceful information. Advanced level applications of AI such as speech recognition to enhance the support available for students with disabilities, multilingual learning options, etc. are excellent examples of AI opportunities in education.

On this occasion, Dr Mandeep Kumar, spokesperson of the Department of Teacher Education, presented a citation and books to the keynote speaker Professor Bhavna Singh, Professor, Faculty of Education, Shahid Mangal Singh Pandey Girls College Meerut, while Dr Jagmehar Gautam honored her by draping a sash.

The special guest of the program, Dr Suvita Kumari, DAVV (PG) College, Muzaffarnagar was honored by Bhanu Pratap Verma, spokesperson of the Department of Teacher Education, and Amrish Kumar, Radha Krisht Institute of Technology and Management, Saharanpur, was honored by Sandeep Rathi by giving them a citation.

On this occasion, the Principal of Shri Ram College, Muzaffarnagar honoured the Chief Guest Professor Bhavna Singh, Professor, Faculty of Education, Shahid Mangal Singh Pandey Girls College Meerut and the Special Guests Dr. Suvita Kumari, DAVV (PG) College, Muzaffarnagar, Amrish Kumar, Radha Krisht Institute of Technology and Management, Saharanpur by giving them mementoes.

At the end of the programme, Dr. Prerna Mittal, Principal, Shri Ram College, thanked everyone.

The programme was successfully conducted by Gauri Garg, a student of B.Ed. 2nd year.
