New changes in the NAAC accreditation system of higher education institutions

With the aim of making the practical, employment-oriented and skill development-centric higher education system effective, on the fourth day of the seven-day workshop on the topic of "Autonomy and Ranking of Quality Higher Education Institutions" being held in the auditorium of Shri Ram College, Dr. Vineet Kumar Sharma, Dean Academics, Shri Ram College was the keynote speaker and among the special guests were Dr. SN Chauhan, Director, Shri Ram Group of Colleges, Integrated Campus, Dr. Prerna Mittal, Principal, Shri Ram College, Muzaffarnagar, Dr. RP Singh, Director Research, Dr. Girendra Gautam, Director, Shri Ram College of Pharmacy, Dr. Manoj Dhiman, Director, Fine Arts Department, Dr. Vineet Kumar Sharma, Dean Academics, Shri Ram College, Muzaffarnagar, Dr. Saurabh Mittal, Dean Management etc. The workshop started with the welcome of the guests and lighting of lamps.

On the fourth day of the workshop, the keynote speaker Dr. Vineet Kumar Sharma, Dean Academics Shriram College, spoke on the topic “New changes and suggestions in the assessment and accreditation system by NAAC for higher education institutions in India”. Speaking on his topic, he said that to strengthen the assessment and accreditation of higher education institutions in India, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has proposed to implement a simple binary accreditation and level based accreditation in place of the current 8 point grading system. He said that based on the report of Dr. Radhakrishnan Committee, new accreditation guidelines are now to be brought by NAAC. The objective of binary accreditation is to encourage all higher education institutions to participate in the NAAC accreditation process. The eligibility conditions of institutions have already been relaxed for the binary system. Under the new NAAC system, evaluation will be done on the basis of data of 3 years instead of 5 years and the duration of the accreditation certificate will be 02 years and discussed the new parameters set for the level based system in which evaluation is to be done based on 10 criteria instead of 07 criteria at present. He said that the new NAAC system has been created keeping in mind the compliance of the new education policy 2020. Explaining the difference between the new NAAC system and the old NAAC system, he said that in the new NAAC accreditation system, the detailed grading system has been changed from D to A ++ to accreditation, provisional accreditation and not accreditation, along with a level based (level 1 to level 5) accreditation system for colleges with special achievements. In which level 4 is proposed to be given for national importance and level 5 for global importance. The new guidelines and their formats are likely to be made public on the NAAC portal by April 2025. Heads of all the departments of Shri Ram College and teachers were present in the workshop.
